I am a Turk. Hrant was an Armenian. I am a writer at Agos. Hrant was Agos. Hrant had one ambition only which was to end the hatred, malice and grudge between the Armenians and the Turks and both nations to live together in peace, respect and harmony.

Hrant and Agos were like the blossoming flower on the Turkish prairie. They picked that flower and threw it out. Who was shot was not only Hrant, it was at the same time Turkey's reputation. That is so true. But we have to ask ourselves that the attack has an agenda geared towards our domestic politics. The goal is to install feelings of guilt in our collective unconscious. The real victim was not Hrant Dink, it was us, as usual: Our peace, our stability, our happiness, our unity, our integrity, our conscience that has long forgotten disturbance and shame. So they trained the 17 year old well not to miss the target but who killed this target were the ones behind this intention.

Zarakolu appeared in court once again this week, this time on trial for the Turkish language publication of Prof. Dr. Dora Sakayan's book "Garabed Hacheryan's Izmir Journal: An Armenian Doctor's Experiences " and George Jerjian's " The Truth Will Set Us Free: Armenians and Turks Reconciled".

The prosecution demands 7.5 years imprisonment for the Turkish translation book "The Truth Will Set Us Free" for which the court has assigned Korkmaz Alemdar and Cafer Yenidogan of the Galatasaray University and Prof. Dr. Emin Artuk of Marmara University as expert witnesses. They are to read and analyse the book for an expert report. Judge Sevim Efendiler adjourned the Jerjian’s case until October 5 th, for delivery of the expert report.

Yayıncı Ragıp Zarakolu, İstanbul Sıkı Yönetim Mahkemesinin benzeri bir suçlama nedeniyle 24 yıl önce verdiği bir beraat kararını mahkemeye sunarken, Avukat Osman Ergin 5 uzman tarihçinin dinlenmesi için mahkemeden talepte bulundu.

Belge Yayınları'nın editörü, gazeteci Ragıp Zarakolu, Prof. Dr. Dora Sakayan'ın "Bir Ermeni Doktorun Yaşadıkları-Garabet Haçeryan'ın İzmir Güncesi" ve George Jerjian'ın "Gerçek Bizi Özgür Kılacak" kitabını Türkçe'ye kazandırdığı için bugün (15 Şubat Çarşamba) yeniden hakim önüne çıktı. Duruşma hakimi, Zarakolu’nun Adalet Bakanlığının düşünce özgürlüğü ile ilgili çelişkili tavırlarına dikkat çeken dilekçesini okumasını engelledi, dilekçeyi ve ek belge olarak sunulan Sıkı Yönetim Mahkemesi kararını dosyaya koymakla yetindi.
